What is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is almost like painting.
But the difference between paint and powder coat is the way its applied and its durability.
Powder coating is applied as a free-flowing powder in a completely dry form.
The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat which causes it to form a kind of “skin” or “barrier”.
How does it work?
Electrostatic Spraying is a method typically used to achieve the application of the powder going onto a metal substrate.
This application method uses a spray gun.
It applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles, which are then attracted to the grounded part (the metal).
Is it better than paint?
When cured, powder coating forms a protective finish that is much harder then conventional paint.
Due to the thermal bonding process, powder coated metal are resistant to weather, chemicals, corrosion, scratching, chipping and other wear and tears.
Powders also provide a more uniform coating because they don’t drip or run.
The colors stay vibrant longer then with wet painting.
Is it environmentally friendly?
Unlike liquid paint, powder coating doesn’t use harmful chemicals. There is also less material waste than traditional painting processes.
